Did You Know?

Vertical sweep tubes are highly linear power valves?

Designers made triodes and pentodes for this service as linear as possible and in many cases, ended up with a device that rivals the best of the best audio valves..... only at a fraction of the cost!

Chinook SET Amplifier
The Chinook amplifier is a reliable and excellent perfoming single ended triode (SET) amplifier. This is the amplifier we use in our own home.

Based on the dual dissimilar triode 6FD7, it gives very smooth, clean 2A3-like sonics with plenty of midrange detail and transparent highs. Only 3.5dB of negative feedback is used to give tight bass performance with her stock EDCOR XSE-15-8-5K output transformers with a frequency response of 24Hz to 19KHz at full power of 2.5 watts per channel (17Hz to 22KHz at 1 watt).

More pictures of this amplifier (shown with old stock Stancor power transformer used in the prototype): Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3. Production model uses the EDCOR XPWR106 (or their 120/240V variant) power transformer.

The Chinook has proven to be able to drive "SET-stubborn" fullrange speakers easily.

94 dB SPL sensitivity speakers are recommended but they are a proven performer with the 91 dB Planet10-HiFi Fonken speakers.

Aluminum chassis, oiled B.C. softwood side panels (poplar available no extra charge).
